We work within existing agriculture and mining ecosystems to achieve affordability, scalability, and trust.
We connect industrial-scale mining and agriculture supply chains to deliver and measure efficient carbon removal. At Eion, our approach to enhanced weathering is grounded in the principles of affordability, scalability, and trust.
We source the highest quality olivine globally, leveraging existing mining infrastructure for efficiency. A primary source is Sibelco, whose hydro-powered facility is the largest and lowest-emitting olivine quarry in the world.
We transport the pulverized olivine by water, using ocean and river routes to minimize emissions. The pulverized olivine is delivered to American farmers across millions of acres via our robust agricultural network.
Farmers use their existing equipment to apply the olivine to their fields as a replacement for a commonly used ag product, requiring no extra work or new tools. As olivine dissolves, CO2 is captured, plants grow, and soil pH is balanced, improving soil fertility.
We collect before-and-after soil samples, fitting into routine soil practices with standard equipment. We use our patented direct direct measurement approach, to quantify how much CO2 the olivine removed while carefully monitoring soil and ecosystem health.
The captured CO2 is converted into stable bicarbonate that travels to the ocean, locking it away for hundreds of thousands of years. A small amount of CO2 is released along the journey, which we account for in our life cycle analysis, ensuring integrity in our carbon removal claims.
Eion rigorously tracks the carbon impact at every step of our process, ensuring that each carbon credit we offer represents the true net reduction of emissions. See our full life cycle analysis here.
Based on historical performance as of August 2023
We have access to millions of tons of olivine production annually and millions of acres of global farmland, plus the scientific rigor and agricultural know-how to get the job done right.
All that’s missing is you.
